Girls' soccer set for Sectional title showdown with Avon

Brownsburg (11-6-1) will play for an IHSAA Girls' soccer Sectional championship Saturday against Avon (9-8-1). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Avon High School.

The winner advances to the IHSAA Girls' soccer Regional at East Central High School Oct. 17.

Bulldog Bits

  • Hailey Hoskins was the lone goal scorer in the 1-0 Bulldog win over Plainfield Thursday. She is the fifth Brownsburg freshman to score in the postseason since 2016.
  • ­Brownsburg has yet to surrender a goal in their last 172 minutes of play, a stretch that dates back to the 67th minute of their 5-2 win over Zionsville Sept. 30. 
  • Brownsburg shutout back to back opponents for the first time since three consecutive clean sheet wins in 2018 (Assumption, 1-0; Avon, 1-0; Shortridge, 14-0) 
  • Saturday marks the fifth consecutive postseason meeting for Brownsburg and Avon. The two teams also met for the 2019 IHSAA Sectional 9 championship.  
  • The Bulldogs are making their second consecutive appearance in an IHSAA Sectional final, the most for Brownsburg since four straight appearances from 2007-2010.

About the Orioles

Avon escaped with a 1-0 OT win over Mooresville in Thursday's IHSAA Sectional Semi-Final. The Orioles come in having won back to back IHSAA Sectional championships.

Senior Jessica Purtee has scored 14 goals this season, which tied Brownsburg Senior Grace Crawford for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference lead. Junior Amy Velazquez has 27 points and 11 goals in 17 games for the Orioles.
