Girls' soccer earns 1-0 win over Plainfield, advances to Sectional final

By Keelen Barlow

Brownsburg (11-6-1) clinched its second consecutive IHSAA Sectional championship appearance with a 1-0 win over Plainfield Oct. 8. Freshman Hailey Hoskins scored her third goal of the season to give the Bulldogs the win.

It was a defensive slugfest at Avon as both teams battled for a spot in the Sectional final. Brownsburg generated 10 shots while the Quakers were limited to just four in the match. The Bulldogs held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Alanna Dixon recorded Brownsburg's second straight shutout in the postseason. The Bulldogs haven't surrendered a goal in their last 172 minutes of play, a stretch that dates back to the 67th minute of their 5-2 win over Zionsville Sept. 30.

Brownsburg jumped out of the gate win an opportunity in the first minute. The Bulldogs earned a corner kick and Sarah Boucher's header was on target, but the save was made. Pace continued in the remainder of the first half but Brownsburg couldn't finish.

The Bulldogs opened the second half with dominating possession in the final third, leading to the goal from Hoskins. The shot came from the far side and took and odd deflection off a Plainfield defender to put Brownsburg up 1-0.

Brownsburg managed the game well over the final 20 minutes to seal the win and advance.
