No.19 Girls' Soccer takes opener 2-1 over 2A No.5 Brebeuf

By Keelen Barlow

The Brownsburg Girls' Soccer team defeated IHSAA Class 2A No.5 Brebeuf Jesuit 2-1 on Aug. 20 to open the 2020 season. Brownsburg used first half goals from Grace Crawford (29') and Abby Lynch (33') to secure the win.

Grace Crawford led the way with a pair of early chances for Brownsburg. Crawford beat the Brebeuf back line in the 10th minute for the first Brownsburg opportunity of the night. She sent a shot just wide of the net on another opportunity in the 16th minute.

Crawford's third chance of the evening resulted in the first Brownsburg goal of the season. She raced for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper and sunk it far side. Moments later Crawford assisted on the Bulldogs second of the year with a cross to Abby Lynch who buried the chance from straight on. The goal was Lynch's first since returning from an ACL-tear during her junior year.

Brownsburg had ample opportunities in the second half as well. Brebeuf was able to get on the board in the 49th minute but the Bulldogs pushed hard to move the lead back to two goals. Crawford and Lynch connected on a few key chances that weren't able to find the back of the net. Jayden Gibson also had an opportunity as she sent a free kick that went bar down and out in the 62nd minute.
