No.11/18 @bhsdogsghoops to play Mooresville in Sectional opener

The Brownsburg varsity girls' basketball team will open IHSAA State Tournament play tomorrow night in Sectional 12 at Plainfield High School. The Bulldogs are set to take on Mooresville at 7:30 p.m.

Brownsburg comes into the postseason with a 17-8 record (5-2 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference).

     Bulldog Bits

  • The Bulldogs closed the regular season with a 58-51 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win over Zionsville last Friday
  • Brownsburg came in at No.11 in the final Jeff Sagarin Girls' Basketball Ratings of the regular season; the Bulldogs have played the sixth toughest schedule in the state according to the ratings
  • The win over the Eagles moved Brownsburg's current win streak to four games; it's the Bulldogs' longest win streak to end a regular season since they won 7 straight heading into the 2013 state tournament
  • Brownsburg has won its last five IHSAA Sectional Quarterfinal matchups; the Bulldogs' last loss in the first round of the Sectional came to Ben Davis back in 2012
  • Heading into the postseason Allison Bosse's 16.4 point per game average ranks second among players in the Sectional 12 field.  

     About the Pioneers

Mooresville is 16-7 (7-0 in Mid-State Conference) and comes into the IHSAA State Tournament on a five-game win streak. The Pioneers are in the midst of their 14th consecutive winning season under head coach Mark Hurt.

5-foot-8 senior Paige Gregory is the leading scorer for Mooresville with an average of 12.8 ppg. 5-foot-6 sophomore Madelynn Denny (11.0 ppg) is the lone other double-figure scorer for Mooresville.

Mooresville is rated No.22 in the aforementioned Sagarin Ratings.

     Series History

Since the year 2000 Brownsburg and Mooresville have met 14 times in the regular and post season. Mooresville holds a 9-5 advantage in the series. Tomorrow's matchup will be the fourth postseason meeting between the two teams over that same span.

A regular season rematch is in store as Brownsburg and Mooresville also met back in November of this season at the Varsity Fieldhouse. Brownsburg came away with a 50-32 win in that matchup thanks to a 16-point effort from Allison Bosse.

     Up Next

The winner of tomorrow's game will advance to the Semi-Final round of IHSAA Sectional 12 at Plainfield. Terre Haute South awaits the Bulldogs or Pioneers in that matchup.
