By Keelen Barlow

The Brownsburg varsity girls' basketball team will play its final road non-conference game of the season tomorrow night as it travels to take on Pike. The junior varsity game will tip off at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow.

Brownsburg comes in with a 14-8 record (3-2 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference)

     Bulldog Bits

  • Brownsburg split its pair of games last week, falling to No.5/6 Fishers 52-43 and defeating Perry Meridian 50-26
  • Brownsburg allowed just 7 points in the first half of its win over Perry Meridian last Saturday; that mark is the fewest points the Bulldogs have allowed in a single half of any game this season
  • The Bulldogs schedule still ranks among the toughest in the state of Indiana according to the Jeff Sagarin Indiana High School Basketball Ratings; the Bulldogs schedule is rated as the third toughest, behind only North Central (No.2) and Carmel (No.1)
  • Leah Yarbrough surpassed her Brownsburg career-high with 9 points in the win over the Falcons
  • Ally Becki scored 15 points, grabbed 7 boards and dished out five assists in Brownsburg's win over Perry Meridian; it was her eighth performance of at least 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists this year

     About the Red Devils

A traditionally strong program, Pike has taken a step back in 2019-2020. The Red Devils are 2-14 (0-5 in Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference) and have lost six straight games heading into their matchup with Brownsburg.

Pike is led by a strong core of underclassmen as sophomore Jaelynne Murray and freshman Giavonnie Belton lead the Red Devils. Murray averages 17.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game while Belton has an average of 15.0 ppg.

     Series History

Since 2000, Brownsburg and Pike have only met three times during the regular season, (Pike leads 2-1) but the two programs have a storied history in the postseason.

The former Sectional foes met five times in the sectional between 2005-2013. The two programs met an additional time in the Regional in 2017 after the IHSAA aligned Brownsburg to its current sectional field. Pike led the postseason series 5-1 over that stretch.

Last season, the Red Devils came to the Varsity Fieldhouse and were handed a 57-56 loss. Brownsburg trailed by as many as ten points late in the game but stormed back to take down Pike. Allison Bosse hit a clutch free-throw to put Brownsburg ahead with 2.4 seconds left in the game.

     Up Next

The Bulldogs will return home this Friday to play HCC foe Westfield for Senior Night. The matchup will tip off at 6 p.m. and is the front-end of a Girls/Boys varsity doubleheader.
