No.13/12 @bhsdogsghoops to face Avon, No.1/3 Lawrence North this weekend

By Keelen Barlow

The Brownsburg varsity girls' basketball team is set for a pair of games back to back this weekend. The Bulldogs will host Avon on Friday in a battle for the B&O Trail Rotary Bell before traveling to No.1/3 Lawrence North on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Bulldogs come in with an 8-3 record (2-1 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference).

     Bulldog Bits

  • Brownsburg beat No.12/11 Harrison 51-45 on Tuesday to hand the Raiders their first loss of the season
  • The win over Harrison marked the ninth consecutive time that the Bulldogs have gotten back in the win column after a loss in the regular season; Brownsburg hasn't lost back to back games since January of 2017
  • Brownsburg's win over Harrison marked the seventh time that the Bulldogs have held an opponent to 45 points or fewer this season
  • Allison Bosse scored 26 points in Brownsburg's win over Harrison and moved into ninth on the program's all-time scoring list
  • Bosse is 22 points away from joining the 1,000-career point club; she would be the ninth player in program history to score 1,000 career points

    About the Orioles

Avon comes into the matchup with a 7-4 record (2-2 in HCC) and will look to snap a two-game skid. The Orioles will play their third consecutive HCC game after falling to Hamilton Southeastern 60-35 and Westfield 59-49 in their last two games.

The Orioles are led by a pair of frontcourt players in 6-foot senior Haley Nichols and 6-foot-1 junior Alex Richard. The duo combines to average 24.3 points per game and 20.3 rebounds per game. Nichols, who leads the Orioles with 14.6 ppg, has posted rebounding efforts of 15, 14, and 13 this season. Richard, who is a verbal commit to Butler, had her streak of six consecutive double-double snapped in their loss to HSE.

Nichols' and Richard's rebounding averages rank second and third respectively in the HCC this season. Avon is averaging the most rebounds per game of any team in the conference.

     About the Wildcats

Lawrence North is 14-0 on the season (2-0 in Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference) and is ranked No.1 in the ICGSA Class 4A Poll for this week. They are also ranked No.1 Jeff Sagarin's Indiana High School Girls' Basketball Ratings. The Wildcats, who are coming off a Marion County Tournament championship last week, play Warren Central on Thursday night before they take on the Bulldogs.

(NOTE: Lawrence North has not published any individual player stats for this season)

The Wildcats are led by a 2021 Indiana Miss Basketball candidate in 5-foot-9 Jayla Smith. Lawrence North has a trio of Division I commits in Katie Davidson (Miami OH), Kristian Young (Illinois-Chicago) and Lauren Gunn (Valparaiso).

Lawrence North is allowing an average of 39.6 points per game this season. They have allowed more than 50 points in a game just once.

     Series History

Since 2000, Brownsburg and Avon have met 32 times in the regular season, the Hendricks County Tournament and the IHSAA State Tournament. Brownsburg leads the series over that stretch by a 27-5 margin.

On Friday the Bulldogs will look to extend an 11-game regular season win streak against the Orioles. Brownsburg has won 18 straight over Avon when you include Hendricks County Tournament and IHSAA State Tournament games.

The meeting on Saturday will be the first between Lawrence North and Brownsburg since the 2007-2008 season. That matchup, a 55-39 LN win, is the lone meeting between the programs since 2000.
