Dogs Look to Finish Regular Season Strong at Center Grove

By Sam Weiderhaft

The Bulldogs will finish their regular season campaign on Tuesday night at Center Grove to face the Trojans. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Following a 37-35 loss at Hamilton Southeastern on Friday night, Brownsburg holds a 17-4 record, and have shared the HCC regular season title with HSE, both with 5-2 conference records.

Sectional Draw

The sectional pairings were announced on Sunday afternoon, with the Bulldogs set for a Rotary Bell rematch in sectional 12 against the Avon Orioles next Tuesday, Mar. 3rd, at Mooresville High School. The winner of that game will play Terre Haute South on Mar. 6th, with the championship on Mar. 7th. Terre Haute North and Plainfield face-off against each other in the bottom half of the bracket, with Mooresville receiving the first round bye.

Bulldog Bits

  • Despite Friday's loss, the Bulldogs showed their willingness to compete. After being down 22-9 in the 2nd quarter, Brownsburg went on a 16-0 run into the 3rd to take a lead on HSE before losing by 2.
  • After averaging just under 60 points a game, HSE's offense was held to just 37 points in Friday's contest.
  • Senior Malek Edmonds led the Bulldogs in scoring for the first time since Dec. 28 with 12 points
  • Senior Jakobi McGowan reached double digits in scoring for the second time this season with 10 points
  • The Dogs are 3-2 this season against MIC opponents
  • Brownsburg is 3-2 in their past 5 road games

Scouting Center Grove

The Trojans have taken a big step back after their 21-9 season and state semifinal appearance a season ago. With two more regular season games on their schedule including Brownsburg, Center Grove posts a 7-12 record, going 0-7 in MIC play this year and finishing in last place in the conference. The Trojans are coming off their final MIC game of the season, falling 64-54 against North Central on Friday.

The offense has struggled to get going for the Red and White. The team averages just under 50 points a game, having been held under that number in 10 games. Center Grove has gone 1-6 in their last 7 games, with the lone win coming to Brownsburg's sectional host, Mooresville.

Series History

For the last five years, these two teams have played each other in Brownsburg's final regular season game of the season. Center Grove has gone 3-2 in those last five, but the Bulldogs have won the past two. Since the '04-'05 season, Brownsburg has gone 5-4 in their matchups against the Trojans. Last year, Pierce Thomas had a breakout game with 20 points, helping the Dogs to a 62-56 over the Trayce Jackson-Davis led Trojans.
