@bhsdogsbhoops Take Down Avon, Move to Sectional Semifinals

By: Maddie Greer

The Dogs defeated rivals Avon at the first round of Sectional play tonight, 55-49.

Even though the regular season saw a win over the Orioles, the Dogs had to go into this matchup with a clean slate. Both teams put in a fight, but Brownsburg stuck to their excellent defense and pulled ahead for the win.

Avon kept the pressure on throughout the game and the Bulldogs had to continually push back for their consistent, small leads. A halftime score of 30-27 fueled the fire of rivalry going into the 2nd half. At the end of the 3rd, only 1 point separated the two teams. The final quarter was a test of each team's strengths and stamina. Senior Malek Edmonds continued to build on his momentum and had 9 vital points in the 4th quarter alone. The Dogs and Orioles tied multiple times in this quarter and with expert play by Edmonds, junior Pierce Thomas and senior Connor Lucas, the Dogs took home a win.

Edmonds was the top scorer tonight for the Bulldogs with 20 points and an additional 10 rebounds. Thomas followed after with 12 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Lucas came in with 9 total points followed by senior Jakobi McGowan with 7 points. Junior Quentin Bragg added 3 points to the Bulldog win. Junior Luke Lacey continued to be the Bulldog's sneaky weapon, ending with 4 points, but contributing 6 assists and 5 rebounds.

The Dogs will face off against Terre Haute South Vigo on Thursday, March 6 at Moorseville at 6:00 p.m. for section #12 Sectional Semifinals.
