@bhsdogsbhoops Gear up for First Round of Sectionals Against Avon

THe Bulldogs will open up the postseason with a first round sectional matchup against the Avon Orioles on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Mooresville High School.
Brownsburg ended their regular season last Tuesday at Center Grove with a 51-46 victory, finishing 18-4 overall, and 5-2 in the HCC. The HCC title was shared with Hamilton Southeastern, who also finished 5-2.
Bulldog Bits
- Malek Edmonds scored a career-high 31 points against Center Grove last Tuesday. The senior has been averaging 17 points per game since returning from injury.
- Junior Pierce Thomas committed to Butler University last Thursday to continue his basketball career. Thomas has been averaging over 14 points per game this season.
- Brownsburg has limited opponents to 46.5 points per game, the lowest in the HCC.
- In the final AP poll of the regular season, Brownsburg came in 10th.
- The Bulldogs are 3-0 on neutral floors this season.
- Head Coach Steve Lynch has collected 3 sectional titles in his previous 6 years with Brownsburg in '14, '15, and '17. He won 1 sectional title with Mount Vernon in 2010.
Scouting Avon
The Orioles finished the regular season with their 2nd winning season in a row at 13-9. Their HCC record was 3-4, finshing in 7th place overall. Their three conference wins came against Hamilton Southeastern, Fishers, and Noblesville.
Avon is led by junior Jayden Brewer, who finished the regular season averaging 15 points per game. Brewer ended the regular season on a hot streak, scoring in double figures in each of the final eight games. He is helped by junior Gabe McNary, who averages 11.6 points per game. This is a very young squad, with only two seniors playing in 20 or more games.
Last Meeting
These teams have already seen each other once this season, battling for the Rotary Bell back on December 20th. Brownsburg put together one of their best all-around performances of the season, winning 72-50 at Varsity Fieldhouse. Connor Lucas, Pierce Thomas and Malek Edmonds all scored 16 points, with Lucas going 4-6 from 3. Oriole sophomore Chrishon McCray scored 20, with Brewer adding on 10.
Series History
This will be the fifth year in a row these two schools will see each other twice in the same season. Brownsburg has had Avon's number, going 8-0 in the previous eight meetings. The last Avon victory came back on Jan. 5th, 2016 in a tournament game. This is the first time since 2006 that the Orioles and the Dogs have played in sectionals, with Brownsburg winning 70-69 in the last sectional meeting.
