Edmonds & Thomas named on All-USA Central Indiana Preseason Super Team

Senior Malek Edmonds and junior Pierce Thomas of boys' basketball were named players on the 2019 All-USA Central Indiana preseason Super Team on Thursday, Nov. 21. Last year, senior Cam Alford was on the Super Team. Alford now plays as a guard at Alabama A&M. 

From a quick glance at last season's stats, you can quickly see why these two were chosen for this team. 

Pierce Thomas Highlights

The 6'5" junior guard was a vital part of the team last season. He has offers from Butler University and various other universities have expressed interest. He was named a player on the first Super Team. This is Thomas's third year on the varsity team. Stats from last year include:

  • 9.4 points per game(ppg), 4.5 rebounds per game (rpg), 4.1 assists per game (apg) and 1.4 steals per game (spg).
  • He led the team in apg, second in rpg and spg and fourth in ppg.

Thomas also appeared multiple times on the HCC leaderboards: 

  • 21st in scoring leaders 
  • 12th in rebound leaders 
  • 22nd in field goals with 80 FGM
  • 15th in free throws with 43 FTM
  • 21st in 3-pointers with 22 3PM
  • 4th in assists 
  • 9th in steals 
  • Had 1 game with a double-double 

Head coach Steve Lynch says, "Pierce has been a very dynamic player for two seasons.  He finished his sophomore season pushing the triple double stat line while being a key defensive component for us. He, like Malek, has taken this off season to heart and really honed his game both mentally and physically.  I am excited to see where their leadership can take our team this season." 

Malek Edmonds Highlights

The 6'7" senior forward has been a continuous key player throughout his high school career. Edmonds has various universities that have expressed interest in him, but he has not committed to any at this time. He was named a player on the third Super Team. He has been on varsity all four years. Stats from last year include: 

  • 10.5 points per game (ppg), 4.7 rpg (rebounds per game), 1.4 apg (assists per game) 
  • He led the team in rpg, second in ppg, seventh in apg.

Edmonds also had top spots on the HCC leaderboards: 

  • 17th in scoring leaders
  • 9th in rebound leaders
  • 12th in field goals with 99 FGM
  • 13th in free throws with 47 FTM
  • 32nd in assists 

Head coach Lynch says, "Malek has been such an exceptional teammate and a huge piece to our team success over the last 3 seasons.  I am excited to see him expand his role and responsibilities this season.  I am excited to see him play his senior season after the hard work he has put in this past off season."

Both players showed up as leaders in the preseason scrimmage at Center Grove. Edmonds and Thomas will start their season on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at North Central Indianapolis starting at 7:30 PM.
