@bhsdogsbhoops Advance to Sectional Final with Win over Terre Haute South

By Sam Weiderhaft

The Bulldogs moved on to the sectional final after Friday night's 44-29 victory over Terre Haute South at Mooresville High School. This will be the 4th time in the Steve Lynch era that Brownsburg has advanced to a sectional final game (started in 2013).

The game started out close, with the first quarter ending with the Dogs up 11-8. Scoring remained at a premium in the second quarter, with Brownsburg continuing to lead 19-13. The Bulldogs kicked on the jets in the second half, starting off on a 7-0 run, and saw Pierce Thomas hit a buzzer-beating half-court shot to end the third quarter with a double-digit lead. Brownsburg took out their starters with a minute left in the fourth, beating the Braves by 15. 29 points is the lowest point total for any opponent Brownsburg has faced this season.

Senior Malek Edmonds was the leading scorer and only Bulldog in double-digits with 18. He want 9-of-14 from the field. Connor Lucas and Luke Lacey would both add 7 points.

Terre Haute South was led by Cordell Hanes, who scored 10.

The difference-making stat for Brownsburg was the rebounds, where the Bulldogs out-rebounded the Braves 26-16. Luke Lacey grabbed a team-leading 5 boards.

Sectional Preview

The Bulldogs will take on Plainfield in tomorrow night's sectional 12 final. The Quakers took down the sectional host Mooresville 46-34 on Friday night.

Both teams will be entering the championship with 20-4 records. These teams are pretty familiar with each other, having met twice already earlier this season. Brownsburg won both matchups, 57-47 on Dec. 7th, and 55-43 on Jan. 11th in the Hendricks County Tournament championship game. Pierce Thomas has had two solid games against the Quakers, scoring 21 in the first game and 14 in the second.

The Quakers are led by junior Aidan Booher, who is averaging just over 10 points per game. Plainfield split the Mid-State conference title with Greenwood with a 6-1 conference record. They will be entering Saturday night's game on a 9-game winning streak.

This will be the third time in four years that Brownsburg will take on Plainfield in the sectional. Last year, Plainfield cut the Dogs season short with a 46-43 win in the first round. Steve Lynch has won 3 sectional titles with the Bulldogs, in 2014, 2015, and 2017.

Saturday night's game will be played at the Mooresville High School gym, the Curry Center. Tip-off will be at 7:00.
