GAME NOTES: No.4 Football, Avon set for Sectional showdown

Brownsburg (7-1) travels to Avon (5-4) for the IHSAA Sectional Semi-Final Oct. 29. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Avon High School on Bcsc.tv. The winner advances to meet the Carmel/Pike winner Nov.6 for the IHSAA Sectional Championship.

News and Notes

  • Brownsburg finished ranked No.4 and No.3 in the final Associated Press and IFCA state polls of the season. The Bulldogs are rated No.4 by the Sagarin Ratings, the highest mark in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.
  • Friday marks the 11th all-time postseason meeting between Brownsburg and Avon. It is the fourth consecutive year the two sides have met in the IHSAA Sectional.
  • Avon leads the all-time postseason series against the Bulldogs 7-3. Brownsburg defeated the Orioles in 1999, 2009 and 2019.
  • The Bulldogs will open the postseason with Avon for the fourth time in program history.  
  • Brownsburg hasn't lost an IHSAA Sectional opener since 2016.
  • The Bulldogs will open the postseason on the road for the first time since 2014. Brownsburg is looking for the program's first win at Avon in the postseason.  

Bulldog Bits

  • Brownsburg's seven wins in 2020 marks the program's fifth straight season of at least seven wins.
  • The Bulldogs scored at least 28 points in each game of the regular season, the first such instance in program history.  
  • Brownsburg outscored opponents 169-58 in the first half this season. 
  • The Bulldogs won their regular season finale for the fourth time since 2016.
  • During the regular season Brownsburg totaled 29 rushing touchdowns (First in HCC), the highest mark for the program since at least 2013.
  • RB Caleb Marcus posted 735 yards (3rd in HCC) and 13 touchdowns (First in HCC) despite playing just seven games.

About the Orioles

Avon finished the season with wins over Zionsville and Noblesville in back to back weeks. The Orioles are looking to avenge a 27-24 loss at Brownsburg in the 2019 IHSAA Sectional.

The Orioles were the highest scoring team in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference during the regular season, averaging 36.6 points per game. QB Henry Hesson threw for 2472 yards (First in HCC) and 31 touchdowns (First in HCC).
