No.3 Football takes OT thriller over St. Xavier, 30-24, on ESPN2

By Keelen Barlow

In front of a national television audience on ESPN2 the No.3 ranked Brownsburg Football team escaped with a 30-24 overtime win over St. Xavier (Ohio) on Aug. 29. The Bulldogs trailed 17-3 at halftime but rallied to tie the game with 0.32 seconds left. QB Ben Easters found WR Luke Lacey for a four-yard touchdown to level the score. Brandon Burks' walk-off touchdown in overtime sealed the win and moved Brownsburg to 2-0 on the season.

For the night Lacey had two touchdowns to go with nine receptions and a career-high 145 recieving yards. Lacey also snagged an interception while playing as a DB in the second half. Both of Lacey's touchdown catches came with Brownsburg trailing in the fourth quarter.

A 38-yard field goal from Spencer Porath was the lone score for Brownsburg in the first half. But the Bulldogs outscored the Bombers 27-7 in the second half to come from behind. Brownsburg trimmed the score to 17-10 off a four-yard touchdown run from Caleb Marcus. Marcus rushed for 83 yards on 14 carries against St. Xavier.

After St. Xavier scored less than a minute into the fourth quarter the Bulldogs answered with a 24-yard touchdown to Lacey. The Bombers were in control again with 3:58 left in the fourth quarter. Mani Jackson's strip sack on that Bomber drive put Brownsburg in the redzone and set up the late touchdown catch from Lacey. Brownsburg would recover another fumble on the kickoff following the game-tying touchdown from Lacey. St. Xavier then picked off Easters on the next play and sent the game to overtime.

Jalen Wilson answered with an interception of his own on St. Xavier's drive in OT. Three plays later Burks found the endzone to win it for Brownsburg.
