No.3 Football rolls past No.5 Ben Davis in opener 38-7

By Keelen Barlow

The Brownsburg football team cruised to a 38-7 win over No.5 Ben Davis to open the 2020 season Aug. 21. Brownsburg jumped out to a 31-0 halftime lead and never looked back in the matchup.

The Bulldogs' stout defense and potent rushing attack led the way against the Giants. Brownsburg scored all but one of its touchdowns on the ground in the win. Meanwhile the defense allowed Ben Davis just 41 yards of total offense in the first half. DB Chris Williamson snagged a pair of interceptions in the first half for Brownsburg.

RB Caleb Marcus rushed 11 times for 90 yards in the win. Marcus scored the final touchdown of the night for Brownsburg on a 15-yard run. QB Ben Easters was 14-19 and threw for 136 yards. He found Dylan Hollen for a 32-yard touchdown in the second quarter that made it 21-0.

Cade Garner set the tone early for Brownsburg on a sack that forced a 3rd and long on the Giants opening drive. Moments later Garner made the play on the other side of the ball as he scored the first Brownsburg touchdown of the night. His four-yard rushing touchdown put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0 early.

Garner would strike again in the second quarter to put Brownsburg up 28-0 on Ben Davis.

Spencer Porath's 46-yard field goal put the cherry on top of a 31-point half for the Bulldogs.

With the big cushion the second half was quiet for Brownsburg outside of the Marcus touchdown. The Giants were able to get on the board with 2:06 left but it wasn't enough, and the Bulldogs moved to 1-0 on the year.
