Game Notes: No.3 Football opens season against No.5 Ben Davis

Brownsburg kicks off its 74th season of football against Ben Davis tonight. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Ben Davis High School Football Field on ISC Sports Network and MyINDY-TV 23. 

News and Notes

  • The two teams are meeting in the regular season for just the second time since 1981. Brownsburg and Ben Davis also met to open the 1980, 1981 and 2019 seasons.
  • Brownsburg opens the season ranked No.3 in both the Associated Press Poll and the Indiana Football Coaches Association Poll. Ben Davis is ranked No.5 in both of those same polls.

Bulldog Bits

  • The Bulldogs are undefeated in season opening games since Head Coach John Hart took over in 2016. Brownsburg is 15-4 in season openers since 2000.
  • Brownsburg comes in off a 7-4 season a year ago. The Bulldogs posted their third consecutive IHSAA Sectional championship appearance last season
  • 11 starters return from the 2019 Brownsburg squad, including seven on offense and four on defense
  • The Bulldogs scored 340 points last season (1st in the HCC) and allowed 231 points (4th in the HCC)
  • Brownsburg is 6-3 against non-conference foes since 2016

About the Giants

  • Ben Davis posted an 8-5 (5-2; 4th in MIC) record in 2019. The Giants fell to Center Grove in the IHSAA Class 6A Semi-State.
  • Two-way player Daylan Carnell (33 tackles, five interceptions in 2019) is the lead returner for the Giants. He also accumulated over 200 all-purpose yards last year.
  • Ben Davis ranked top-3 in the MIC when it came to Total Tackles, Tackles For Loss and Sacks during the 2019 season
