Game Notes: No.2 Football heads to Franklin Central for HCC opener

Brownsburg hits the road to open up its 2020 Hoosier Crossroads Conference slate against Franklin Central. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. from Franklin Central High School on IHSAAtv.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 (0-0 in HCC) on the year.

News and Notes

  • Brownsburg climbed to No.2 in both the Associated Press poll and the IFCA poll for Week 3. That matches the Bulldogs highest AP ranking since head coach John Hart took over in 2016. Brownsburg was also ranked No.2 during the 2018 season.
  • Friday marks the 10th meeting all-time between Brownsburg and Franklin Central. The Flashes lead the series 6-3 although the Bulldogs are 2-0 against Franklin Central since they joined the HCC in 2018.  

Bulldog Bits

  • Last week Brownsburg came away with a thrilling 30-24 win over St. Xavier (Ohio) in front of a national television audience on ESPN2. The Bulldogs trailed 17-3 at halftime but rallied to win in overtime.
  • The game against the Bombers was Brownsburg's first overtime affair since the 2016 season. Under Hart the Bulldogs are 2-0 in games that require overtime.
  • Brownsburg's defense held St. Xavier to just 10 yards rushing for the game last week.
  • Luke Lacy surpassed the 1,000 career receiving yards mark against the Bombers. Lacey, who now has 1,128 career receiving yards, caught 9 passes for 145 yards in the win. He also had a pair of touchdowns.
  • Freshman kicker Spencer Porath is perfect on field goal attempts in the young season. The average distance of his two kicks is from 42 yards.
  • A win over the Flashes would give Brownsburg its eighth 3-0 start to a season since 2000. The Bulldogs have started 3-0 on five occasions since 2011.

About the Flashes

Franklin Central is 1-1 after a 40-14 win over Perry Meridian and a 36-6 loss to Roncall to open the year. The Flashes are searching for their first winning season since 2017 under first-year head coach Nick Eversole.

The Flashes have accumulated the second-most rushing yards of any HCC team this year. RBs Aataeveon Jordan and Josh Ruley have combined for 48 carries and over 350 yards rushing on the season.
