Bulldogs Defeat #6 Castle
The Brownsburg Bulldogs continued their solid play on Saturday with an exciting 5-4 victory in 8 innings over 6th ranked Castle Knights in their second game of the Carmel Invite. Castle started the game win 1 run in the top of the first but the Bulldogs answered with their own run in the bottom of the first with a single from Ally Carver and Mackayla Gordon followed by an RBI single to RF by CeCe Ridgeway. Brownsburg added another run in the second inning with a single to CF by Kyleigh Anderson, another single by Brianna Harbin and an RBI bunt single by Taylor Astell. The Bulldogs pushed another run home in the third when Elissa Brown hit an RBI single to RF to score Kayleigh Pate, who was running for Mackayla Gordon who singled to start the inning. The Knights tied the score in the top of the fourth at 3-3 and the sore remained tied through regulation. In the top of eighth inning the Castle Knights scored 1 run using the international tie-breaker to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the eighth inning Elissa Brown tied the game with an RBI double over the RF head followed by a sacrifice bunt by Kyleigh Anderson to move Brown to 3B. Taylor Mendenhall then reached base on an error and Brianna Harbin walked to load the bases for leadoff hitter Taylor Astell who smashed a line drive up the middle for the game winning RBI. Sydney Lowe pitched an outstanding game allowing 4 runs, only 1 earned run in 8 innings in the circle to the capture the win. The Brownsburg Bulldogs are 10-5 on the season and will play Westfield at home on Tuesday at 6:00pm in an HCC contest.
