Softball Goes 2-1 on the Weekend

Softball Goes 2-1 on the Weekend

After an action packed softball weekend, the Bulldogs' season record moves
to 3-1.  Brownsburg picked up two victories over the weekend, defeating
Western Boone (9-0) and Ben Davis (4-2), and dropped a game to Cathedral
in a close 0-1 battle.

The Western Boone game helped to generate the offensive spark needed to
get Bulldog bats going for the weekend.  Lucy Paczkowski was 3-4 at the
plate with an RBI, while Taylor Astell added 3 hits of her own and Sydney
Lowe chimed in with two doubles.  Jessica Doctor was the winning pitcher
for the Bulldogs, giving up 2 hits, recording three strike outs and
allowing zero runs for the 9-0 shutout.

On Saturday, Brownsburg's offense came out strong against the Ben Davis
Giants, but a late 6th inning burst was what the Bulldogs needed to clench
the win.  CeCe Ridgeway was 3-3 at the plate with a triple and an RBI.
Taylor Astell and Sydney Lowe both came out hitting strong, adding two
hits each during their three attempts.  Then in the bottom of the 6th
inning, the game was tied at 2-2, Taylor Mendenhall stepped up with a
critical double, knocking in 2 RBI's.  The two runs scored in the 6th were
the final runs needed to secure the 4-2 victory.  Freshman Elissa Brown
was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs, earning her first win as a
varsity pitcher and recording 8 strikeouts on the game.

Even though Brownsburg's offense continued during their next contest, the
Bulldogs fell in a close battle 0-1 to the Cathedral Irish.  Jessica
Doctor recorded the loss for the day, but pitched a great game, allowing
only 5 Irish hits, 1 earned run and striking out 7 Irish batters.
Offensively, Taylor Astell was 4-4, Jessica Doctor was 2-4, Lindsey Stahl
was 1-3 with a double and was MacKayla Gordon 1-2.  Unfortunately, even
though Brownsburg out hit Cathedral 9 to 5, 11 Bulldog runners were left
on base and Brownsburg was unable to score.

Brownsburg's next contest will be Tuesday, 4/14 against county and HCC rival, Avon.
