No. 25 Baseball defeats Avon in thriller, falls to THN in Sectional Championship

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Baseball team fell in the Sectional Championship on May 31 to the Terre Haute North Patriots, 4-2. The Bulldogs have come off a thrilling extra-inning victory over rival Avon in the sectional semis, winning 7-4 in 10 innings.

The No. 25 team in the state started off slowly against the Orioles, falling behind 3-0 after a first inning homerun put Avon on top early. The Bulldogs never stopped chipping away, though, as they got two runs back in the top of the third, as Dominic Skinner ripped a two-RBI single.

The Bulldogs claimed the lead in the top of the sixth when Keenan LeBlanc lined a two-RBI double down the left field line. Avon would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth.

After three full innings of scoreless baseball, Brownsburg erupted in the top of the tenth, plating three runs behind two doubles from Jackson Fought and Ben Bayler. Jackson Parent shut the door in the bottom half, sending the Bulldogs to the Sectional Championship game.

Parent pitched six innings, only giving up two hits and one run in the process. Bayler, LeBlanc and Skinner each led the team with two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Brownsburg again trailed to start the game as the Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.

Ty Mathews and Jackson Fought, came up clutch in the bottom of the fifth, each driving in a run to tie the game heading into the final two innings. However, Terre Haute North plated two runs in the very next half inning and the Bulldogs didn't have another answer in them.

The Bulldogs wrap up their season with a 19-8 record and a third place finish in the HCC.
