Baseball storms back, hits walk-off in win over Avon

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Baseball defeated Avon, 7-6, on a walk-off single from shortstop Ben Bayler in the bottom of the seveth inning, claiming the B&O Rotary Bell. The Bulldogs overcame a 6-0 deficit in the second inning, scoring seven unanswered runs over the final five and a half innings.

After Avon pushed starter Luke Shelton out of the game early, Jackson Parent stepped up and provided excellent relief, pitching 5.2 innings and settling the Oriole bats.

The Dogs responded quickly, though, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning after Avon scored four of their own in the top half. Then, the teams settled in, with neither team scoring again until Sean Gannon drove in Ty Mathews in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Keenan LeBlanc doubled over the left fielder's head, later scoring on a Gavin Pierson single, tying the game.

In a tied bottom of the seventh, Mathews led off with an infield single. Brayden Johnson entered the game and sacrificed Mathews to second. After walking Gannon, Ben Bayler delivered the big moment, singling into right field as the throw home could not be handled.

The Dogs make the return trip to Avon on Thursday night, weather permitting. The win moves Brownsburg to 6-4 on the year and 3-4 in the HCC. First pitch tomorrow night is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
