Newby steals show in Baseball's Senior Day victory

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Baseball team defeated Ben Davis, 6-1, on Saturday, as ten players were celebrated on Senior Day. The Bulldogs have now won eight consecutive games.

The Dogs jumped on the Giants early, scoring in each of the first three innings, including a four-spot in the bottom of the first. Jackson Fought drove in a run via hit by pitch, while Dominic Skinner knocked in a run on an RBI single. Two hustling runners scored on an infield fielder's choice.

Skinner also started on the mound for Brownsburg and impressed, tossing four shutout innings with four strikeouts and just one walk.

In the second inning, Ty Mathews blasted a solo homerun to left-center field.

But it was what happened in the sixth inning of a five-run game that made the day magical. In the first at-bat of his varsity career, senior manager Trevor Newby ripped a double into the right field, sending Mary Beth Rose Park into a frenzy.

The Bulldogs next take their winning streak to the test on Tuesday, May 18 as they travel to McCutcheon to take on the Mavericks. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
