Baseball sweeps Franklin Central in weather-induced doubleheader

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Baseball team won both of their games on May 5 at Franklin Central, a makeshift doubleheader because of expected rain on Thursday.

The Dogs won game one of the doubleheader, 6-1, behind yet another strong pitching performance from Connor Lambert, who gave up one run on three hits and struck out three. Brownsburg held just a 3-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh, but a bases-clearing double from Sean Gannon gave the Dogs some more breathing room heading into the final frame. Luke Shelton closed out the last two innings in relief.

Along with Gannon's two hits and 3 RBI, Jackson Fought and Jackson Parent has multi-hit games of their own with two hits each.

Brownsburg defeated the Flashes as the "home" team in game two, 5-2. The Dogs were outhit 10-4 in the nightcap of the doubleheader, but a combination of opportunistic at-bats and stellar pitching from Mason Tibbs resulted in Brownsburg's fifth win in their last six games.

Tibbs came in for relief of Parent in the top of the third and finished the rest of the way, allowing five hits over five innings and zero runs. Ty Mathews knocked a two-run triple in the fourth inning to extend the Bulldog lead.

Up next: The Bulldogs take on No. 3 Center Grove at the Victory Field Classic on May 7. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
