Baseball splits Saturday doubleheader

Baseball splits Saturday doubleheader

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Baseball team went 1-1 in their Saturday road doubleheader against Plainfield and Decatur Central. The Bulldogs fell to the Quakers, 5-2, in the morning before defeating the Hawks, 8-7, in the afternoon.

If you blinked in the Brownsburg-Plainfield game, you may have missed it. In the fourth and fifth innings, neither team had a baserunner as the game was in the bottom of the sixth inning by the one-hour mark. Mason Tibbs struck out eight in a very solid performance on the mound. Ty Mathews scored a run in the first and later drove in Gavin Pierson in the third, but that would be all the runs Brownsburg would score.

In the afternoon, it was a much different story for the Bulldog offense. After already scoring on run in the first, Dominic Skinner ripped a two-RBI, two-out single up the middle to get the Dogs up three runs by the end of the first half inning.

After the Hawks put together a string of runs to take the lead, Brownsburg spotted five runs in the top of the fith, including a two-RBI double from Jackson Fought and a double from Jackson Parent that hit the wall on the fly. Pierson would later come on for the save.

The Dogs have a week full of game coming up, as they travel to Franklin Central on Wednesday, before playing the return home game on Thursday. Then, the Dogs play at Victory Field at No. 3 Center Grove and cap the week with a home game versus Terre Haute North on Saturday.
