The Dogs Split with Avon in Mid-Week DH

The varsity baseball team split a midweek double header the conference rival Avon last night at Avon.  Due to the unfortunate string of bad weather, the Dogs were pushed back 2 days before they could get in the much anticipated rivalry.  The Bulldogs already claimed 1 win against the Orioles this past season in a thrilling victory in the Hendricks County Championship, and the fireworks were out again in the first game.  The Bulldogs jumped had an offensive explosion that led to 13 runs opposed to the Orioles 4.  On the hill, senior Jordan Deal threw 6 innings, giving up only three runs on 9 hits.  Senior Jake Weimer completed the game with 1 shutout inning in the 7th.  At the plate, the Bulldogs were led by seniors John Moore, Jeremy Jones, Bob Carr, Isaac Sampen, Dave Oliger, Tyler Whetstone, and Logan Coughlin...all with hits.  Unfortunately, the Dogs couldn't keep the sticks alive in the night game.  Junior Sam Sampen pitched 5 innings of great baseball, giving up 2 runs to the Orioles and senior Jake Weimer and Ty McCoy chipped in with another inning each.  The Dogs hit the ball hard and had runners on base all night, but couldn't string together a run. They lost 4-0.  The Bulldogs move to 8-7 on the season and look forward to another conference battle this weekend against Lafayette Jeff.
