PREVIEW: No.14 Softball set for challenging five-game stretch

No.14 Brownsburg (7-1, 1-0 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference) will take on a tough-five game road stretch this week. The dockett includes an road trip to take on unbeaten Mooresville tonight and three games at the Carmel Invitational this weekend. Brownsburg will also travel to Zionsville for the Bulldogs' second HCC game of the season Thursday. 

Last week at a Glance 

The Bulldogs picked up five wins last week including an 8-4 victory over No.7 Bedford North Lawrence. The Bulldogs opened the busy week with wins over Western Boone and Westfield in consecutive days. Brownsburg scored ten unanswered runs to beat the Stars 10-3 at home last Monday. The Bulldogs poured 21 runs on Westfield the next day to get their first HCC win over the year. 

Up against No.6 Center Grove, Brownsburg dropped its first game of the season last Thursday. 

Brownsburg closed the week with three wins at the Columbus North Invitational. The Bulldogs defeated Seymour 5-2 and East Central 6-5 Saturday morning. Maddy Edwards' walk-off double secured the win over the Trojans. Kelsey Endress, Edwards and Grace Mendenhall hit home runs in the Bulldogs win over Bedford North Lawrence. 

Bulldog Bits 

  • Brownsburg hitters accounted for eight home runs across six games last week. The Bulldogs have 13 home runs this year (2nd in HCC) 

  • Mendenhall and senior Vivianne Harris hit the first home runs of their Brownsburg careers in wins over Bedford North Lawrence and Westfield

  • Endress struck out 11 batters against Bedford North Lawrence, the fourth double digit strikeout performance of her Brownsburg career. She fanned 21 batters across 15.0 innings Saturday in Columbus 

  • Brownsburg is 3-0 this season when opponents score first 

  • Three of sophomore Addy Neal's four hits this season are home runs. She hit a pair of homers for Brownsburg last week 

  • Edwards had a home run, two RBI and threw 4.0 scoreless relief innings at the Columbus North Invitational

About the Opponents 

No.9 Mooresville (10-0, 4-0 in Mid-State) is led by sophomore Alexandra Cooper who has a 2.30 ERA in the circle and a .636 batting average at the plate this year. The Pioneers swept their Mid-State conference series with No.4 Decatur Central last week. 

Zionsville (5-2, 0-1 in HCC) went 2-1 last week with wins over Kokomo and McCutcheon and a loss to Hamilton Southeastern. 

Brownsburg will take on No.10 Castle (11-2, 2-1 in Southern Indiana) and Noblesville (4-2, 1-1 in HCC) Friday to open the Carmel Invitational. Eight players have a home run this year for Castle including Jackie Lis who leads the team with a .682 batting average, 31 RBI and 5 home runs. Freshman Gabby Fowler has a .429 batting average with 4 homers while sophomore Cameron Grayson is 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA this year for Noblesville. 

The Bulldogs close the week against No.13 Pendleton Heights (6-3, 1-1 in Hoosier Heritage) who has hit a total of 26 home runs this year.
