Calero's walk-off homer lifts No.13 Softball over Tri-West, 5-3

By Keelen Barlow

No.13 Brownsburg defeated Tri-West in thrilling walk-off home run fashion on Opening Day, April 6. Senior Olivia Calero smashed her first career home run in the bottom of the 8th inning to secure a 5-3 walkoff win for Brownsburg in its season opener. It was also the first career win for Interim-Head Coach Cherise Hiss.

The Bulldogs dug out of a 3-0 first-inning whole after Tri-West got a three-run home run off Brownsburg starter Kelsey Endress. Endress got stronger as the game went on and she surrendered just one hit over her final six innings of work. For the game, she allowed 3 earned runs off 4 hits while striking out seven batters.

Endress also led the way at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance to go with a pair of home runs. It was the first mutli-home run game of Endress' Brownsburg career.

After Tri-West struck first Endress launched a solo bomb to center that trimmed the Bruin lead. Her 2-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning knotted the game at three. Teams were held scoreless for 3.5 innings before Calero capped off a three-home run night for Brownsburg in the bottom of the eighth.

Brownsburg had ten hits in the win over the Bruins as Endress, Kaylee Larkin and Vivianne Harris each had multi-hit performances.
