Neal fans ten, Larkin hits grand-slam as No.13 Softball routs Western Boone, 10-3

By Keelen Barlow

For the second time this season No.13 Brownsburg erased a 3-0 deficit for a home non-conference win April 12. Brownsburg climbed out of the deficit to win 10-3 over Western Boone and move to 3-0 on the year. The Bulldogs scored ten unanswered runs across the first four innings and held off the Stars to get the victory.

Sophmore Addy Neal was stellar in her first high school appearnce, striking out ten batters and throwing 6.2 shutout innings in relief. Neal allowed just three hits and struck out all ten batters swinging. It was the most strikeouts for a single Brownsburg pitcher since Kelsey Endress struck out 10 batters against Pendleton Heights in 2019.

After the Stars plated three early runs Neal took over in the circle and struck out two batters to get Brownsburg out of the opening inning. Olivia Calero's double in the bottom of the first began to chip away at the deficit for Brownsburg.

Brownsburg loaded the bases and manufactured four runs in the second inning. Singles from Lexi Gordon and Grace Mendenhall scored a pair of runs while Neal and Ashleigh Tranter scored off a passed ball and a groundout.

After an RBI single from Endress in the third, Larkin busted the game open in the fourth. She stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and smashed a home run to center field, the first grand slam of her Brownsburg career.
