PREVIEW: Six-game slate awaits unbeaten No.13 Softball this week

No.13 Brownsburg will look to stay unbeaten as the Bulldogs take on a six-game road slate this week. The Bulldogs open with a 5:30 tilt against Western Boone tonight and a Hoosier Crossroads Conference contest with Westfield tomorrow at 6 p.m. Brownsburg travels to defending IHSAA Class 4A State champion No.3 Center Grove on Thursday April 15 before closing the week with three games at the Columbus North Invitational Saturday April 17. 

Bulldog Bits 

  • Brownsburg opened the season with a 5-3 walk-off win over Tri-West April 6 and a 12-0 rout of Cathedral April 7 

  • Olivia Calero and Kelsey Endress are tied for second in the HCC with two home runs in the young season 

  • Endress posted a 1.62 ERA (T-4th in HCC) and threw 12 scoreless innings for Brownsburg last week in the circle 

  • Ten different Bulldogs recorded a hit over two games last week, including seven players with multiple hits 

  • After a 4-for-5 performance at the plate last week Kiersten Huff sits second in the HCC with a .800 batting average

  • Huff and Vivianne Harris led Brownsburg with 4 hits over two games last week 

  • Endress and Maddy Edwards retired 22 of 26 batters in a combined no-hitter against Cathedral 

  • Calero and sophomore Addy Neal hit the first home runs of their Brownsburg careers last week

About the opponents 

Monday's contest is a matchup of unbeatens as Western Boone is 3-0 on the year. Senior Mya Fisher leads the Stars with eight hits and eight RBI in 13 at-bats. In the circle, Western Boone has a 1.47 team-ERA across 19 innings of work. 

Westfield is 1-3 and 0-1 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference play. Junior Avery Parker has an .815 batting average with nine hits, 10 RBI and four home runs this year. 

Center Grove, ranked No.3 in the ICGSA 4A poll, comes into the week with a 6-2 record (1-0 in MIC). Five Trojans have at-least six hits this season including senior Alexis Rudd, who has a .412 batting average and three home runs. 

Brownsburg is set for a three-game schedule Saturday in Columbus including an 8 a.m. matchup with No.32 Seymour (3-0, 2-0 in Hoosier Hills) and 10 a.m. meeting with No.27 East Central (3-1, 1-0 in Eastern Indiana). The Bulldogs third opponent of the day is TBD.

Brownsburg is set for five more road games next week including meetings with Mooresville and Zionsville April 19-20 and a three-game slate at the Carmel Invitational April 23-24.
