Bulldogs Sweep Broncho's

The baseball team completed a weekend sweep of HCC opponent Lafayette Jeff by outscoring them 6-1 in game 1 and 7-1 in game 2.  The series kicked off in Lafayette on Friday night but was postponed in the top of the fourth due to weather.  With the Dogs up 2-1 with a runner on 3rd base to start the day on Saturday, they quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead off a Cody Gill RBI.  The Bulldogs added another run in the 6th inning when junior C Brooks Bireley reached base on a single.  From there, senior PR Trent Kabrich stole 2nd and 3rd to set up an easy RBI single for senior OF Tyler Westrich.  With the Bronchos needed to head to the bullpen in the 7th, the Bulldogs tacked on two more runs off an RBI single from junior OF Anthony Travelsted and and RBI single from junior 3B Andrew Dishinger.  Junior LHP Matt Rollyson picked up the game on the mound in the 4thinning, following junior RHP Caleb Sampen, who pitched the 3 innings on Friday night.  Rollyson threw 4 scoreless innings to collect his 2nd win of the season.

A quick turnaround time in between games and an efficient 4 innings to finish off game one allowed Rollyson to start the second game of the day.  Rollyson kept rolling for the Dogs, throwing 3 scoreless innings for the Bulldogs to start game 2 before getting into a little trouble in the 4th.  Senior RHP/1B Sam Comer entered in the fourth and got the Dogs out of a jam, threw a scoreless 5th and 6th before junior RHP Michael Klayer finished the game in the 7th.  With his work on the mound, Rollyson collected his second win of the day!  The Dogs were held scoreless until the 3rd inning of game 2 when senior DH Cody Gill knocked a 2-run double to right scoring Travelsted and Sampen.  Gill was brought around to score on an RBI single by sophomore C Charlie Brewer.  The Dogs added 2 more in the fourth when junior OF Ryan Robbins score junior Travis Mears and Westrich on another RBI double.  The final runs of the day were scored in the 5th on RBI singles by Mears and Westrich to bring the final tally to 7-1 in favor of the Dogs.
