Mavericks Top Bulldogs

The Bulldogs opened conference play with a tough loss to the McCutcheon Mavericks 4-2.  The Dogs got behind early and couldn't put things together to spark a big comeback.  Junior LHP Triston Polley started the game and went 3 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) while striking out 5.  Junior RHP Michael Klayer took over in the 4th and was able to hold the Mavericks scoreless the rest of the way; however, the Dogs were unable to generate any runs behind Klayer to take control of the ball game.  The Bulldogs threatened in 5th with bases loaded and two out, but were unable to get a run across.  In the top of the 6th senior OF Tyler Houston led off with a solo-HR (his 2nd of the season) followed by a Jacson McGowan walk and a couple singles by senior DH Cody Gill and junior C Brooks Bireley put the game at 4-2.  In the 7th the Dogs threatened again with Westrich, Houston and Gill loading the bases, but the rally was ended when the Mavericks were able to snag a hard line drive to right and a ground ball between 1st & 2nd to end the game.
