Bulldogs Lose to Millers

The Bulldogs (6-4, 1-3)dropped a tough game against Noblesville in the second of their 2-game series with the Millers by the score of 3-2.  The Bulldogs jumped to the lead in the second inning that started with a two-out single by senior 1B Sam Comer, was followed up by a single to right-center by junior DH Owen Gilbert and then capped off by a triple down the line by junior P/SS Travis Mears.  Mears continued to blank the Millers until they snuck 1 run across in the 4th.  A scoreless fifth brought the game to the controversial 6th inning.  In the sixth, junior LHP Matt Rollyson entered the game in relief of Mears when a curveball snuck away from junior C Brooks Bireley.  On the throw, the ball careened off the helmet of the batter and landed in the dugout.  After a no-call and a meeting between the umpires, it was decided that no interference occurred and the tying run was given 2 bases when the ball appeared to go into the home dugout.  The Millers were able to add on a run in the 7th while the Dogs were unable to generate any offense in the bottom of either inning.  Mears pitched an outstanding game in his debut as a starter going 5 1/3 innings, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits.  Rollyson (1-1) collects the loss even though he pitched great in his 1 2/3 innings of work.  Offensively, the Bulldogs were held at bay by the Miller pitcher, but were led by Gilbert (3-3) and Mears (1-3, 2 RBIs)
