Bulldogs Complete the Sweep

Bulldogs Complete the Sweep

The Bulldogs completed a sweep of rival Avon by winning the second game of the HCC series by the score of 4-1. The Bulldogs fell behind in the top of the first after the Orioles were able to tack on a run off of a solo home run in the first; however, the Bulldog offense quickly jumped in gear.  Senior CF Tyler Houston led off the game with a double off the wall and the Dogs quickly loaded the bases after a HBP and a BB to juniors Ryan Robbins and Caleb Sampen.  Junior Anthony Travelsted and Travis Mears followed with back-to-back RBI singles and sophomore C Charlie Brewer walked to score the 3rd run of the inning.  After the first inning, the Dogs spread a few hits around but were unable to tack another run on the board until Houston went deep in to lead off the 5th (his 4th of the season).  The Bulldogs used three pitchers to tame the Orioles offense. Travis Mears settled in after giving up 1 run in the 1st and pitched 4 more inning of scoreless work to collect his 2nd win of the season.  Junior LHP Matt Rollyson provided 2 scoreless innings in relief before handing the ball over to junior RHP Michael Klayer to close the game out in the 7th (his 2nd save of the season).  Offensively, the Dogs were led by Houston (3-3, HR, 2B); junior 2B Brad Guilinger (1-2); Travelsted (1-3, RBI).
