Bulldogs Defeat Orioles

The Bulldogs won a close battle with cross-town rival Avon by the score of 4-3.  The Dogs jumped out to an early lead when senior OF Tyler Houston led off the game with a triple down the right field line and was quickly brought in to score by junior DH Ryan Robbins.  The Dogs were then able to put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 3rd after stringing a few hits together including RBI singles by junior SS Caleb Sampen and junior OF Anthony Travelsted.  The Orioles scored one run in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 3-1.  In the 5th, the Dogs scored again on a sacrifice fly by junior C Brooks Bireley that scored Sampen.  In the seventh, the Bulldogs were able to stomp out an Oriole rally when junior RHP Michael Klayer entered the game, needing only one pitch to retire the final Avon hitter.  Sampen started the game and threw a scoreless first inning.  Junior Triston Polley threw 6 2/3, allowing only 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits.  Klayer collects his first save of the season and Sampen collects his first win.
