Girls' Basketball Win Sectional Opener

The Varsity Girls' Basketball team improved to 18-3 on the season with a first round win in the IHSAA State tournament over Southport, 54-46.  The Dogs got off to a great start with 5 players scoring in the first quarter, the Dogs lead 12-5.  The Cardinals fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Dogs by 4.  The Dogs went into halftime up, 22-19.  The Dogs held steady in the second half as Southport's shooters got hot.  Chloe Dygert scored seven quick points in the third quarter to provide a spark for the Dogs.  The score after three quarters, 36-29.  The Dogs hit 12 out of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
 
Stephanie Mavunga filled up the stat sheet scoring with 19 points, 18 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 steals and 2 assists.  Kayle Comer added 10 points, scoring a bucket in each quarter.  Aliyah Walker and Lindsey Low combined for 11 rebounds.  Zhane Roper stepped up to the free throw line in the final minute of action and nailed 4 straight FTs!  Margaret Oles did a great job handling the point and running the Dogs' offense.
 
The Dogs will face Ben Davis tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.  Come out and support your Bulldogs!
