Girls' Basketball tops #1 Ranked Lebanon Tigers

The Varsity Girls' Basketball team defeated the #1 team in 3A, Lebanon, in a thrilling come from behind win 55-52.  The Dogs jumped out to a great start outscoring the Tigers 18-13 in the first quarter of action.  The teams were even in the second quarter as the Dogs entered halftime up 32-26.  The Tigers stepped up their defense outscoring the Dogs by 14 points in the third quarter.  The Tigers lead, 36-44.  The Dogs showed their resilience as they refused to lose.  The Dogs chipped away at the Tigers' lead and were behind by 5 with 2 minutes to play.  Lindsey Low stepped up big in the final minutes of action.  Lindsey grabbed the ball in a crazy scramble by the Tigers' basket and called the Dogs' final time out with just under a minute to play.  As the Dogs trailed by one, they showed discipline in working the ball around the perimeter looking for a good shot.  Margaret Oles found Kayle Comer open on the wing.  Kayle hit a basket with just 11 seconds remaining, to put the Dogs up by one!  The Dogs played tremendous defense, contesting the Tigers' final shot.  After a missed Bulldog freethrow, the Tigers had one last opportunity to score.  As the Tigers' took the ball out of bounds under the Dogs' basket, Stephanie Mavunga blocked the inbounds pass, grabbed the ball and scored the final basket to extend the lead to 3.
 
It was an all around awesome team effort.  Stephanie scored a game high 32 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, blocked 3 shots and had 2 steals.  Aliyah Walker finished with 8 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.  Lindsey scored 6 points, grabbed 8 boards, dished out 2 assists and had 2 steals.  Kayle scored 5 points and did a nice job defending Lebanon's top player.  Margaret Oles did a great job running the point and controlling the offense at the end of the game.  Nice Win girls!
 
The Dogs will recognize their seven seniors tomorrow night at the Varsity Fieldhouse when they face Brebeuf.  Come out and support your Dogs!
