Bulldogs Knock Off 8th Ranked Westfield

The Varsity Girls Basketball team knocked off the #8 team in the state, Westfield, Saturday night in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference showdown for second place.  The Rocks got off to a good start, outscoring the Bulldogs by 3 in the first quarter, 12-15.  The Bulldogs fired up their defense, holding Westfield to just 5 points in the second quarter.  The Bulldogs entered halftime up, 24-20.  The Bulldogs continued to play tough defense in the third quarter, holding the Rocks to nine points and increasing the lead to 34-29 after 24 minutes of action.  Kayle Comer hit a fourth-quarter 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 39-32 lead.  Aliyah Walker, playing great defense throughout the game, then ripped the ball away from a Westfield player passing it ahead to Zhane Roper.  Zhane was fouled and stepped to the free throw line to score two free throws to increase the Bulldogs' lead to 41-32 with 5:14 left.  But Westfield (15-2, 6-2) made a run and cut into the Bulldogs' lead.  The Bulldogs held steady.  Lindsey Low stepped up and hit a free throw extending the Bulldogs' lead to 45-42; with 12 seconds to play.  On Westfield's final possession, Aliyah blocked a three point shot attempt to secure the win.  It was a great team victory for the Dogs!
 
Stephanie finished with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks.  Aliyah added 7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block.  Kayle pulled down three big rebounds at the end of the game and finished with 5 points.  Lindsey Low had a great game filling up the stat sheet with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.   Zhane and Margaret Oles did a great job running the point.  Zhane stepped up and hit a big three in additional to the free throws the she scored at the end of the game. 
 
Great win ladies!  The Bulldogs will host Arsenal Tech on Wednesday for their Coaches vs. Cancer game.  Come out and support your Dogs!
