Girls' Basketball Defeats HCC Foe Noblesville

The varsity girls' basketball team improved to 6-2 on the season with an exciting win over Noblesville, 75-72. The teams exchanged baskets in the first quarter, the Millers leading by one, 16-15, after eight minutes of action. The Dogs turned up their D in the second quarter, forcing turnovers and converting on the offensive end. The Dogs entered halftime up, 36-27. Stephanie Mavunga scored 22 of her game high 39 points in the first half. The Millers cut into the Dogs' lead in the third quarter, trailing the Dogs by seven after three quarters. The fourth quarter would prove to be very exciting as the Millers forced several turnovers in the final minute of action. Aliyah Walker hit six free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Dogs maintain the lead. Noblesville hit a trey from the corner to cut the Dogs' lead to one point with 3.9 seconds to play. The Dogs remained calm, inbounding the ball to Kayle Comer. Kayle was fouled and stepped up to hit two big free throws with less than two seconds on the clock to seal the win for the Dogs. Margaret Oles had her best performance of the season, dishing out five assists and draining a shot from long range. Stephanie scored a game high 39 points, hitting 16-20 shots from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line. She grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists. Aliyah Walker scored 10 points, pulled down six rebounds and had two steals. Kayle Comer finished with nine points and two steals. Mackenzie Trout was aggressive in the post, knocking away Noblesville's post passes. Kenzie grabbed four rebounds and scored six points. The Dogs shot an amazing 79% from the charity stripe. It was a great team victory! Way to go girls.
