Girls Basketball Secures 2nd Place in HCC

The varsity girls' basketball team secured a second place finish in the always tough Hoosier Crossroads Conference on Saturday night with a win over visiting Westfield, 48-42.  It was a special night where the players honored their 'Most Valuable Educator' before the tip off.  A special thank you to the Most Valuable Educators who participated in Saturday's festivities!  We appreciate all of the time and energy you invest into educating our students!

The Dogs got off to a great start, with Katie Reinhart and Stephanie Mavunga scoring all 11 of the Dogs' first quarter points.  The Dogs' defense held the 'Rocks to just four points in the first eight minutes of action.  Against a tough Shamrock defense, the Dogs scored only two field goals in the second quarter.  Alex Shipley scored six of the Dogs' eight second quarter points.  The Dogs entered the half with a four point lead, 19-15.  The 'Rocks continued to battle and took their first lead of the game, 31-32, before the third quarter came to a close.  Kayle Comer drained a trey to quickly regain the lead.  Chloe Dygert stepped in and played great defense on the 'Rocks' point guard, disrupting their offensive flow.  Chloe also hit two big free throws in the fourth quarter to extend the Dogs' lead.  The Dogs' led by 10 points, 45-35, with 3:00 minutes remaining.  Missed free throws kept the 'Rocks in the game down the stretch.   Allison DeVaney hit two big free throws in the final minute to secure the win. Katie played physical defense in the post, defending Westfield's leading scoring.  Katie finished with 11 points, hitting 5-6 from the field, and grabbed four rebounds.  Stephanie scored a game high 19 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out five assists and had four steals.  Alex finished with eight points, hitting 3-4 from two point range.  Allison, Alex, Chloe, Kayle and Lindsey Low played great defense on Westfield's perimeter players, holding them well below their season average.  Allison did a nice job handling the 'Rocks full court defense.  Mackenzie Trout pulled down four rebounds and played great D in the post.
