Bulldogs Open Season With a Win Over Hawks

The Varsity Girls basketball team got their season off to a great start last night with a solid win over Decatur Central, 59-47.  The teams exchanged buckets in the first quarter, with the Dogs leading after 8 minutes of play, 11-9.  Decatur Central turned up their D in the second quarter, holding the Dogs to just 9 points.  The Hawks led by six at the half, 20-26.  The Dogs played intense defense in the third quarter which helped create some offense, the Dogs scoring 20 points in the quarter.  Kayle Comer and Alex Shipley each hit two three pointers to help the Dogs take the lead, 40-36, after three quarters of action.  The Dogs dominated the boards in the fourth quarter and hit 70% from the charity stripe down the stretch to secure the win. 
 
It was an overall great team effort!  Stephanie Mavunga led the Dogs with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks.  Katie Reinhart poured in 10 points, hitting 4 of 5 from the field, and grabbed 9 boards.  Alex Shipley finished with 10 points and did a great job handling the ball for the Dogs.  Kayle Comer finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds.  Allison DeVaney played great defense on one of Indiana's best point guards.  The Dogs will face the fourth ranked team in the State, Ben Davis, on Saturday night.  Come out and support the Dogs in their first home game of the season!
