Dogs Top Avon

The varsity girls' basketball team won their first conference game on Saturday night, defeating rival Avon 61-43. The Dogs improved to 4-0 on the season. The Dogs got off to a solid start, playing tough defense and handling Avon's pressure, leading after the first quarter 12-7. The Dogs' defensive intensity picked up in the second and third quarters of action forcing Oriole turnovers and converting on several fast break opportunities. The Dogs led after three quarters, 41-30. The Dogs scored 20 fourth quarter points! The wings made great entry passes into the post and the posts finished inside. It was an exciting game with contributions from 12 players! Stephanie Mavunga had the 'hot hand' leading all scorers with 35 points - hitting 17 - 22 from the field. Stephanie also grabbed seven boards. Allison DeVaney pulled down six rebounds, dished out three assists and finished with three steals. Kayle Comer drained a three, pulled down five boards and passed out four assists. Lindsey Low and Katie Reinhart each hit a couple of nice jump shots combining for 10 points. Lindsey filled up the stat sheet with five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
