Bulldogs Slay the Giants

Bulldogs Slay the Giants

The varsity girls' basketball team won a thriller on Saturday night, over the third ranked team in the State, Ben Davis, 46-39.  The Giants' pressure defense rattled the Dogs in the first half, forcing several turnovers and holding the Dogs to just 12 points after two quarters.  The Giants led by twelve heading into halftime, 12-24.  The Dogs 'got mad, got even, (did a much better job handling the defensive pressure) and finally took their first lead 36-35 with just under six minutes to play and held it by making 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.'

Makenzie Trout was HUGE in the win pulling down 10 rebounds - most of which were late in the game.  Makenzie also did a great job at the free throw line, hitting three of four free throws in the final minutes of action.  Kayle Comer hit three 3's and a 2 in the second half and finished the game with 11 points.  Stephanie Mavunga had a game high 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Seniors Allison DeVaney, Alex Shipley and Katie Reinhart showed great leadership and enthusiasm as the Dogs erased a 15 point first half deficit.  Alex stepped up and hit two free throws after a Ben Davis technical foul.  Allison hit 5 of 6 free throws, finishing the game with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks and an assist.  Katie played great defense on Ben Davis' big post players and grabbed 6 boards.  Lindsey Low was a calming effect late in the game and helped the Dogs secure the the WIN!  A special thank you to our GREAT Bulldog crowd!  Congratulations girls ~ great win!
