No. 26 Girls' Swimming season ends at State Prelims

The No. 26 Brownsburg Girls' Swimming team ended their season at State Prelims on Feb. 12 at the IUPUI Natatorium with no swimmers advancing to the State Finals. 

The 200 Medley Relay team of Maria Gutzweiler, Leah Kingery, Annika Schaekel and Margie Miller kicked off the event with an 11th place finish in Session 1 with a time of 1:50.44. Rory Smith continued in the following event to kick off the individual heats with a 13th place in Session 1 of the 200 Free with a time of 1:58.44.

Maria Gutzweiler (24.19) was the closest to advancing to the State Finals finishing in 17th between both Sessions; the top 16 advance. The 16th swimmer in the 50 Free finished her 50 yards in 24.17 seconds, just .02 seconds ahead of Gutzweiler, who finished 11th in Session 1. Annika Schaekel followed in the next event with a 1:01.02 time in the 100 Fly. Schaekel finished 15th in her session.

Along with the relays, Margie Miller competed in her lone individual event of the day next, finishing the 100 Free in 53.85, good for 13th in Session 1. Junior Erin Haycox followed with a 13th-place finish in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:27.05. The 200 Free Relay team was next closest to advancing to the State Finals as a strong anchor leg from Gutzweiler set the Bulldogs' time at 1:39.69. The final placing team in the State Finals was just two seconds faster. The 400 Free Relay team ended the day of swimming with a time of 3:44.50, good for 11th in Session 1. 

Highlights from the Swimming season include the B&O Rotary Bell win over Avon, a fourth place finish in the HCC Championships and the team's eighth-consecutive Sectional Championship.
