No. 26 Girls' Swimming & Diving places 4th at HCCs

The 26th-ranked Brownsburg Girls' Swimming & Diving team placed fourth at the 2021 Hoosier Crossroads Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.

The Dogs scored 280 points, trailing Fishers, who won the event with 463 points, HSE, who finished 2nd at 431 points and Zionsville with 347 points. Noblesville finished 5th with 225 points, Westfield sixth with 173 points, Franklin Central seventh with 105 points and Avon rounded out the field, scoring 79 points.

While no Brownsburg swimmer or diver won a meet in this year's event, the Dogs still placed multiple individuals in the top 5. Maria Gutzweiler placed as the runner-up in the 50 Free with a time of 24.85 seconds. Margie Miller finished third in the same event with a time of 24.95 seconds.

Brownsburg also fared well in the 100 Free with Miller placing 2nd with a time of 54.62 and senior Rory Smith finished third with a time of 55.24. Smith would also finish fifth in 200 IM, finishing in 2:14.12.

The two relay teams in the 200 and 400 Frees also placed fourth. Miller, Smith, Annika Schaekel and Gutzweiler completed the 200 in 1:41.42, while Miller, Erin Haycox, Callie Clodfelter and Smith completed the 400 in 3:43.19.

Senior Emma Wolf placed 2nd in Friday's Diving Championship with a score of 422.97. 

Up next: The Dogs return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 10 with a road meet within Hendricks County against Plainfield. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
