Boys', Girls' Swimming & Diving face off with Avon for B&O Rotary Bell

By Drew Sandifer

On Dec. 8, the 14th-ranked Boys' and the 21st-ranked Girls' Swimming & Diving will travel to Avon to compete with the Orioles for the right to keep the B&O Rotary Bell. Both teams defeated Avon in last year's meeting.

Coming in: Both teams were shorthanded last week and suffered three losses last week against top-level talent in Zionsville, North Central and HSE.

On the girls' side, junior Margie Miller will be a swimmer to look out for as she is coming off a win in the 50-yard freestyle at North Central. Senior Emma Wolf also won the diving portion of that contest. Junior Erin Haycox also impressed with four 2nd-place finishes at North Central in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles as well as a member of the relay team in each event.

For the boys', their top point scorer in Saturday's meet versus HSE was senior Lee Grimes who himself had four 2nd-place finishes in various freestyle events. Senior Myles Grant is coming off a 1st-place finish in the diving portion of that meet, scoring six points for the Dogs. Senior Avary Newman and sophomores Jamie Cameron and JJ Schmidt each accounted for five points against the Royals.

The Avon girls' team came into the season ranked 17th in the state while the Boys were pegged as the 25th-best team in the state. The Orioles have also competed against HSE this season, with both teams also falling to the Royals.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. from the Avon High School pool. Follow @bhsdogs on Twitter for final score updates.
