No.1 @BHSDogsWrestlin to compete at loaded Grappler Gold Invitational in Michigan

GRAPPLER GOLD INVITATIONAL | FULL RANKINGS

The No.1 ranked Brownsburg varsity wrestling team will head to Brighton, Michigan on Saturday for the 2nd Annual Grappler Gold Invitational at the Legacy Center Sports Complex. The Bulldogs are one of fourteen teams competing in the individual tournament.

Brackets and rounds for the tournament have yet to be determined. Action will get underway at 9 a.m.

     A Loaded Field

Brownsburg is the lone team from outside the state of Michigan competing at the tournament this Saturday. Brighton, Davison, Dundee, Kearsley, Jackson Northwest, Alma, Lakewood, Eaton Rapids, St. John's, Lowell, Onaway, Portage Northern and Traverse City Central are also in the tournament.

This year's Grappler Gold Invitation features five programs that are ranked in the InterMat High School Wrestling Fab50 Team Rankings. That group includes, No.14 Davison, No.17 Brighton, No.34 Lowell, No.35 Brownsburg and No.45 Dundee.

The fourteen programs combine for a total of 74 wrestlers who are ranked for their respective weight class. The Michigan rankings are broken down into divisions based on size of enrollment while Indiana has all-class rankings.

285-pound Dorian Keys, 195-pound Isaiah Street and 138-pound Drake Campbell are all frontrunners according to MichiganGrappler.com. The site predicts that 220-pound Leighton Jones, 170-pound Greg Glover, 160-pound Peyton Asbury, 152-pound Jacob Cookerly, 126-pound Kysen Montgomery, 120-pound Gavin Garcia and 106-pound Logan Miller will all be top-four finishers at the tournament.

    Last Year at the Grappler Gold Invitational

Brownsburg finished third at Grappler Gold last season. 220-pound Lawson Aiken was the lone individual title for Brownsburg but 11 other Bulldogs placed at the tournament. 132-pound Drake Campbell finished in second last year.

The Bulldogs boast the best finish among teams that are returning to the tournament this season. Evansville Mater Dei won the tournament in 2018.

After wrapping up the tournament, Brownsburg will host HCC foe Franklin Central for a dual on Dec. 17. The Bulldogs will celebrate "Most Valuable Educator Night" at the Varsity Fieldhouse.
