IHSAA Sectional at Avon awaits No.3 @BHSDogsWrestlin

The Brownsburg varsity wrestling team will compete in Sectional 25 of the 2020 IHSAA Wrestling State Tournament this weekend at Avon High School.

Action will get underway at 8:30 a.m.

     The Sectional Field

Schools from Hendricks, Marion and Putnam County will meet in Avon this weekend. It's an 11-team field as Avon, Ben Davis, Danville, Greencastle, North Putnam, Pike, Plainfield, South Putnam, Speedway and Tri-West will compete alongside Brownsburg for a sectional crown this weekend.

Brownsburg and Avon are the lone ranked teams within the Sectional 25 field. The Bulldogs come in at No.3 in the latest IndianaMat.com Overall Team rankings while the Orioles come in at No.18 in the rankings.

When you look at the IndianaMat Individual rankings thirteen wrestlers come from IHSAA Sectional 25. That group is headlined by seven Bulldogs who are featured in the rankings (the most of any team in the Avon Sectional.) 106-pound Logan Miller (Brownsburg), 126-pound Raymond Rioux (Avon) and 285-pound Dorian Keys (Brownsburg) are all ranked No.1 in the state of Indiana by the website.

126 features the most ranked talent of any weight class in the sectional as Rioux, No.7 Kysen Montgomery (Brownsburg) and No.12 Cameron Allen (Plainfield) are all in the bracket.

Thirteen of Brownsburg's fourteen wrestlers received a first-round bye in the Sectional this Saturday. 132-pound Stabir Singh did not earn a first-round bye however he will advance with a win by forfeit in the first round. Singh will wrestle Connor Holt (Plainfield) in his first matchup of the day.

Nine Bulldogs already know who their opponent will be in the second round due to other first round byes and forfeits in the bracket while the rest are to be determined.

Miller will advance all the way to the Sectional Semi-Final due to a pair of forfeits from Danville and Tri-West on his side of the bracket.

     Sectional History

Brownsburg comes in as the four-time defending champs of IHSAA Sectional 25. Last season the Bulldogs dominated the Avon Sectional and came away with seven individual titles. Brownsburg finished 27.5 points ahead of Avon, the runner-up at the sectional, that day.

Miller, 160-pound Peyton Asbury and 285-pound Dorian Keys are the defending champs for the weight class in which will wrestle this weekend.

Brownsburg wrestling has won thirteen IHSAA Sectional championships in the history of its program. The school's first IHSAA Wresting Sectional championship came back in 1976.

The top four place winners in each weight class of the Avon Sectional will advance to the Regional next weekend at Mooresville High School. Action is set to get underway at 9:30 a.m.
