Baseball Crowned Sectional Champions for the First Time Since 2013

By Brian Cooney

Baseball has won the IHSAA Sectional 12 Championship! For the first time since 2013, the Bulldogs have been crowned champions. On Monday night (5.30), they defeated Avon, 13-3, in a run-rule ending.

Baseball advances past Terre Haute North in the morning on Monday, advancing them to the championship to face their HCC rival Avon High School.

Mason Tibbs started the game for the Bulldogs, pitching two innings. Two runs scored while he pitched, but they were both unearned.

Despite the early 2-0 lead, Baseball came into this game red hot. Jackson Fought came up to bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 2nd, and he blasted one over the fence bringing in four! Grand Slam in the championship?! Are you kidding? The Bulldogs brought two more home that inning, ending the third with a 6-2 lead.

Alec Murphy came in to relieve Tibbs of a bad situation with a bases-loaded jam in the third. Murphy got out of the inning without a scratch. He pitched the rest of the game, throwing for three innings, allowing one earned run.

Wil McKinzie singled in the bottom of the third, extending the lead to five. In the bottom of the 5th, the Bulldogs decided they wanted to end things early. They exploded for six runs and walked it off with a Coulter Hamilton double, scoring two.

What a game and what a season this has been for the Bulldogs. This marks their 15th Sectional Championship in school history and first in nine years.
