Lawrence North tops Baseball in Bulldog season opener, 5-3

By Brian Cooney

Baseball traveled to Lawrence North in their first regular-season game of the 2022 season Apr. 5, with the Wildcats moving by Brownsburg 5-3 despite a strong effort from the Bulldogs. Senior Steven Walsh homered in the losing effort for Brownsburg.

In the 1st inning, the Wildcats struck early with a two-run single with the bases loaded. Then, after a tough inning, the Bulldogs decided to pull their starting pitcher, Walker Brodt.

Both teams were scoreless until the 5th inning, even though the Bulldogs had two or more runners on base multiple times.

Zach Stoll came in to relieve Alec Murphy in the 3rd inning, in which Stoll had six strikeouts, allowing one earned run, in 2 ⅔ innings.

In the top of the 6th, Walsh blasted a 2-run homer to left field, cutting the lead to 1. The Bulldogs allowed a two-run double down the left-field line despite the offensive spark.

The Bulldogs had momentum in the top of the 7th with two outs, scoring once on a passed ball, however the comeback effort wasn't enough.

Brownsburg opens HCC play at Hamilton Southeastern April 6.
