PREVIEW: Brownsburg Girls' T&F takes on State Finals

By Drew Sandifer

The Brownsburg Girls' Track and Field team is set to take on the 2021 IHSAA Girls' Track & Field State Finals on Saturday, June 5 at 3 p.m. at Ben Davis High School.

Four Bulldogs advanced to compete in the State Finals including Lafayette Jeff Regional champ in the 800m-run, Abby Lynch.

Lynch ran a 2:13.75 time in regional action, finishing just behind her own regional record. Her time in regionals was faster than the state standard and is good for the fifth seed in the state final meet. In the last running of the State Finals in 2019, Lynch finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:09.83.

Jordan Griffin impressed in regional action last week, finishing runner-up in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.67. Her time pits her sixth in the seed list, which means she will run in the fast heat at Ben Davis on Saturday in her debut at the State Finals.

Paige Kirtz also qualified for the state finals from the first heat of the 400m run at regionals with a time of 59.59. This time places her 20th heading into her state final debut.

The 4x400m relay team will feature a group of familiar faces as Lynch, Griffin and Kirtz are joined by Eva Altschul in the final event of the evening. The group received a call back after running in 4:02.54 at Lafayette Jeff last week. This time pits them 10th in the seed list for Saturday.

The IHSAA Girls' Track and Field State Finals are scheduled to start at 3 p.m., but Brownsburg's first event will run at approximately 6:30 p.m. The meet can be watched live at IHSAAtv.org.
