Tigers Sweep Bulldogs

The Bulldogs dropped the last two games of the Fishers series this last Saturday in two games that showcased some excellent pitching and defense from both teams.  In the morning game, Garrett Copley threw 4 1/3 innings only allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs while Jaret Starnes finished the game with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball.  However, the Bulldogs were unable to generate any offense against a very solid Fishers pitcher.  The Bulldogs threatened once in the 3rd, with Luis Escalante reaching 3rd with 2 outs and again in the 6th when Escalante reached 3rd again with two outs, but ultimately, the Fisher defense prevailed without allowing a run.  Game two saw the Bulldogs bats wake up a bit, but again Fishers defense was able to hold the Bulldogs offense scoreless.  Fishers scored 5 in the first two innings but was stymied after that with Starnes and Tyler Bireley only allowing 1 run the last 4 innings.  Offensively, the Bulldogs had hits in all but 1 inning and had runners in scoring position five times but could not seem to get a timely hit to fall.  Greg Hughes and Bireley both led the charge going 3-4 in the second game, but the Dogs couldn't find a way to get them across the plate.  The Bulldogs fall to 7-4 (3-3 HCC) and will play a nonconference game against Brebeuf tonight at Westfield (HCC) on Thursday and Saturday and home against Westfield this Friday night.
